Bob Hickish did a new route called Techno Prisoners at Chee Dale Cornice the other day, it starts up Kristian Clemmows 8b Gran Techo, which looks like some of the best roof climbing in the peak! Techno Prisoners then continues straight up the headwall via some big spans.

Sadly the light wasn’t great as it was getting dark, but I managed a few reasonable shots.

Recently I headed back down south for some southern limestone action, one of the crags I visited was Lulworth Cove which has excellent DWS from about 6b to 8a though the majority of the routes are in the 7’s. Below are some pictures from Lulworth.

After all the dry weather we’ve had recently the Cheedale Cornice has become climbable, In my opinion this is possibly the nicest crag I’ve climbed at in the peaks so far. Below are some photos to try and sum up my first trip there.

Final Days Of The Good Weather Weekend…. Flappers and Sending

On the Saturday bad weather forced us from Sheffield to Craig y Longridge, I thought this was a pretty amazing crag its an overhanging grit stone face. Sadly I couldn’t do anything too hard as the crimps hurt my skinless tips. Below are some photos of some people that did manage to climb.

The Peaks had dried out on the Sunday which meant we could head out and I could attempt to clear some problems off my Grit List!

First stop was ‘7 Ball’ F6C in my opinion one of the best problems of the grade at Burbage South.

Once ‘7 Ball’ had seen enough attention, we progressed to Attitude Inspector, another problem on my Grit List. Gav made a quick repeat send, this gave me the encouragement I needed to latch the hold.

Wales Round 2

Another trip to Wales this weekend. It was less productive for me climbing and photography wise but I felt like I have made progress on rock. Below are some of the photos I got from the trip.

Peaks Post Lecture

A day of perfect conditions yesterday allowed some Peak climbing after lectures. Higgar Tor was the crag of choice and a no. of problems were ticked. The pictures below are from this impromptu session.

The Pass

Waking up early on Saturday morning after half a bottle of vodka and a pizza I felt in prime condition to go climbing and decided to take Bob up on the offer to go bouldering in Wales for the weekend.

Soon we there were four of us packed into the car with mats etc. and we were on the road to Wales. Driving out of Sheffield and over the Snake Pass the conditions in the Peak looked terrible with a thick mist shrouding the hills. I was wondering whether we were actually going to be able to climb in Wales and also whether last nights pizza was going to stay in my stomach.

When we got near to Llandudno for Parisellas Cave and there was bright sunshine it was decided that we could probably climb in the mountains, a quick change of route later and we arrived in a sunny Llanberis Pass.

First stop was the Cromlech Boulders, I was pretty psyched to climb on a new rock type, though I had few issues with me being shit, having no skin and painful holds.

On a V5 up the overhanging face of the boulder to the left of Browns crack i got to test out my camera on the photogenic Theo!

We Then Moved onto The Edge Problem V5, I was pretty stoked to do this problem as it looked like my style, however I didn’t manage it (I'm blaming my bad skin!). Luckily its a team effort and Both Barrows and Theo sent the problem.

For the rest of Saturday Bob, Theo and Barrows tried Jerrys Roof and Bus Stop while I attempted to learn to climb and generally lost more of my precious skin.

After a good nights sleep in a handy car-park and a massive bowl of porridge for breakfast we felt ready for a day of crushing.

We returned to the edge problem which Bob despatched, I decided to focus on learning to climb and started to put down the mileage on easy problems.

There was then some success on Jerry’s and I continued my mission to learn how to climb. We then decided to head over to Ogwen Valley to climb on some different rock, we ended up at a very windy Sheep Pen which so far has been one of the most inspiring bouldering I've been too, the problems to me look like bouldering and are in an amazing setting; the long walk in was worth it with a satisfying no. of problems done between us. As it got dark, it was time to leave the beauty of the mountains and head back to Sheffield.

A Damp Start

Yesterday I made the purchase of my new lens to enable me to take climbing shots, being suitably psyched to use it the promise of good conditions got me and Jon out into the peaks.

Sadly unlike Sheffield the conditions weren't so great in the peaks, Burbage South was shrouded in mist and every problem was soaking wet despite a bitter wind.

After some rather desperate and optimistic searching we decide that Violence (F7A+) in Burbage South North Quarry was the best bet for a dryable problem a frantic chalking up and towel flacking later it felt in a climbable condition. Having warmed up (and rescued the mats from being blown into the remains of a dead sheep); I sat down for the first attempt at the problem, in the short period of time taken to warm up it was soaked again! Jon then had a shot and agreed that it was a lost cause.

We headed back to Sheffield damp and pissed off.

Back in Sheffield the camera was still yet to leave the comfort of the camera bag, I decided to try and save a ruined day and headed down to Broomgrove Rd. Wall. I got there finding it in prime condition and considering I hadn’t climbed there for over a month I was pleased to find I could still do the usual traverses, possibly easier than before (is the training paying off?).

The Pictures below are the product of this short pre. Foundry session at Broomgrove which saved what could otherwise have been a typical rained off session.
